“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” Ernest Hemingway
In recent years, personal development has become one of the trend topics all over the world. Many books are published, you can see many blogs and vlogs, many people are interested in this issue and try to improve themselves. Everyone has to add new things to themselves constantly on both business and personal matters in the current world. I have compiled essential skills that I believe will help you with your own journey of development:
1- Read every day.
In the past, the most significant source of human knowledge was personal experiences and a limited number of books. However, where we are now, there is no limit on the information. You don’t have to settle for printed resources. Thanks to the internet, you can have access to the world’s most valuable libraries. Identify what you need to learn and find out articles, books, magazines. Read regularly every day.
2- Know the value of your time.
Time is perhaps the most limited and most valuable asset that has been bestowed upon us. Beware of unnecessarily using.
3- Limit your time spending on TV and social media.
It is enjoyable to spend time surfing on the internet or watching TV. However, it gives us minimal benefits. Therefore limit your time for these; otherwise, they will consume your time before you realize it.
4- Read the life stories of successful people.
Don’t try to learn everything by yourself. Learning from other people is one of the most effective methods. To do this, read the life stories of artists, scientists, businessman. Analyze their success and failure, what they do right and what they do wrong.
5- Compete.
Competition is one of the most effective motivations. Identify role models for yourself and compete with them platonically.
6- Create a list of targets
You can’t talk about development without targeting, therefore make sure you set specific goals and make an effort to reach them.
7- Set new targets
Continuity is essential in development. Therefore, always live as focused on improving yourself. Create new objectives instead of the goals you have reached.
8- There is no success without any effort, accept it.
Searching for shortcuts in life is often a waste of time. Everyone who wants success has to work hard. Internalize this simple rule truly.
9- Do regular physical exercise.
Your body health has a direct effect on your personal strength. By exercising regularly, you can contribute positively to your body and mind health. By doing 45 minutes– 1-hour exercise 3-4 days a week; decrease the tension of work stress, anxiety, sadness, etc. It helps your mind to be more resilient and confident in such cases.
10- Fight with your bad habits.
You can change any habits that you believe not helpful to you. These may be useless habits that kill your time or behaviors that harm your health.
11- Stay away from negative energy; pessimistic people and/or an environment.
People are usually affected by what happens around them. Therefore, it would be wise to stay focused and try to stay away from negativity so that you can create positive behaviors and develop yourself continuously.
There is a lot you can do to improve yourself. Learn a new language, get new hobbies, join a course, open a blog (if you need any help on this, feel free to contact me), but first of all, read books, articles, magazines that will develop yourself. The reason I firstly mentioned “read every day” is that I believe that a person who does not read much has no chance of developing himself. The first habit you need to improve must be the habit of reading. Good luck.
